With the complimentary San Sophia Gondola, which connects historic−downtown Telluride to the new Mountain Village−running until midnight you can easily hop in and out of Telluride’s hottest bars. Like the dining scene, the Telluride night life is an interesting mashing of historic and contemporary. For the most part, the Telluride night life exists in town, while the better après-ski scene is had at the Mountain Village, thanks to sunny patios or “breezeways,” as the locals call it.
As one of the oldest hotels in the West, the New Sheridan’s saloon attracts both locals and visitors. When you step into this historic bar, with original mahogany paneling, you almost feel a connection with the past. How many people have relaxed here after a hard days in the mine or on the slopes? It’s a truly special place, and the strong $5 cocktails make it an unbeatable place. And those looking for a more refined drink, guest can order off their wine list hailed by Wine Spectator in hotel lobby bar, The Parlor. La Marmotte, while revered for an exceptional dining experience, also offers a perfect setting for a quiet cocktail. But if you’re looking for a genuine Telluride night life experience, head to the The Last Dollar Saloon, or to locals “The Buck.” The crowd is largely local and rarely sober. Be sure to check out the original punched tin ceiling.
If it’s sunny, you can expect a hoppin’ crowd at the Tomboy Tavern, formerly the Hop Garden, in the Mountain Village base area. The patio is huge and is conveniently located in front of Village Express lift, so you can click off your skis, sit right down and order one of the 32 local drafts on tap. The schnitzel sandwich, burgers, truffle fries and bloody marys are don’t-miss menu items. If you’d like a Telluride après session with an incredible view, be sure to stop in at famed-Alpino Vino, a wine bar located on the mountain on See Forever Run. The experience is likened to après-ing high in the Alps, and it’s no wonder as Alpino Vino boasts the highest dining experience in the U.S.
